Leo I, 457-474. Solidus (Gold, 21 mm, 4.48 g, 6 h), Thessalonica, circa 462-473. D N LEO PE-RPET AVG Pearl-diademed, helmeted and cuirassed bust of Leo I facing, his head turned slightly to right, holding spear in his right hand and with a shield, decorated with a horseman spearing a fallen foe, over his left shoulder. Rev. VICTORI-A AVGGG / THSOB Victory standing front, head to left, holding long jeweled cross in her right hand; in field to left and right, a star. Depeyrot 59/1. RIC 618. Rare. A well struck and perfectly centered example. Minor scrapes on the reverse and light traces of mounting, otherwise, extremely fine.
